Marl was a veteran duelist in the Taris dueling ring. A one-time dueling champion, Marl's career spanned nearly twenty years. He never fought with blasters, preferring the use of a Vibro double-blade, a decision he made after fellow duelist Gerlon's blaster exploded—which, according to Marl, was a one-in-a-million occurrence. The only duelist he could not beat was the current dueling champion, the borderline psychotic Rodian, Twitch. After Marl is beaten by Revan in the Dueling ring, he claims that although dueling has been good to him, his time is at an end: He retires and leaves the cantina.

Marl was likely killed when Darth Malak's Sith fleet bombarded the planet of Taris.
