The Massacre on Soheras Trench was part of the Genocide of Mon Calamari ordered by Darth Krayt to punish the Mon Calamari people for their aid to the Galactic Alliance Remnant. The massacre was ordered by Darth Azard, a Quarren Sith Lord, and served to test the abilities of the Sea Leviathan, a kind of semi-sentient Sithspawn created by Sith scientist Vul Isen and based on the ancient Leviathans of the Hundred-Year Darkness.

The creature eliminated all prisoners of Imperial Extermination Camp 28, located on Soheras Trench, where the Leviathan had been kept in hibernation waiting for the order to be unleashed. Following the complete elimination of the camp's prisoners, Lord Azard and Isen sent the Sea Leviathan to hunt down the Mon Calamari Rangers.
