A matter transporter was a fictional piece of technology that was able to transport matter, including organic matter, from one realspace location to another without needing to leave a room just by stepping into it, similar to hyperspace.[1]
Finn, when he and Rey while onboard the Millennium Falcon and trapped in the Eravana freighter and awaiting the possibility of First Order-aligned soldiers breaching the Falcon while discussing a plan to ward them off, sarcastically suggested that they use such a device to escape their predicament before pointing out that it didn't exist.[1]
Behind the scenes
Although matter transporters, as indicated by Finn, did not exist in the Star Wars franchise, they were plentiful within the Star Trek franchise, which JJ Abrams had also been involved in.
