The Maw fleet was the fleet of four Imperial I-class Star Destroyers built by Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin to guard Maw Installation, under the command of Admiral Natasi Daala. The ships included were the Gorgon, Basilisk, Hydra, and Manticore. After the fleet left the Maw to attack the New Republic, the fleet was slowly destroyed. Hydra was lost when Han Solo flew the Sun Crusher through its bridge, Manticore was lost during the Second Battle of Mon Calamari, Basilisk was destroyed when Kyp Durron used the Sun Crusher to destroy the Cauldron Nebula. Only the Gorgon survived to take part in the Second Battle of the Maw Installation, but was so damaged that it was scuttled upon reaching Supreme Warlord Harrsk's forces in the Deep Core.

All four ships are named after monsters from Greek mythology.
Some fans consider the naming of Star Destroyers after Greek mythological monsters unusual due to the fact that neither the Greeks, nor their mythology would have existed in the Star Wars Galaxy.
Some fans suspect that the Chimaera, the famed flagship of Grand Admiral Thrawn, is the sister ship of these vessels, but this is merely conjecture.
