Mechu-deru was a Force based skill of the mechanized area, providing an intricate reprogramming of droids. It was used by Jedi—especially tech-experts—to gain an intricate understanding of mechanical objects or structures, identifying their construction and purpose.

Part of mechu-deru related to the ancient Sith alchemy which infused mechanical objects with the energy of the dark side of the Force.

Belia Darzu used the skill to create and control an army of Technobeasts, in a process called Mechu-deru vitae. Darth Maul used the skill to modify the protocol droid C-3PX into an assassin droid and create his Dark Eye probe droid. Irek Ismaren used a similar ability to control the Eye of Palpatine. Arca Jeth used a variation of it to destroy droids rather than control them.
