Merakai was a colony of the Khil species. In response to the Galactic Empire shutting Khil out of numerous government jobs, the citizens of the spaceport Chrenda staged a mass demonstration outside a hangar facility for TIE fighters. In retaliation, the Imperial Navy destroyed all civilian hangars in the city, and marched AT-ATs on a rampage through the city. This conflagration caused many Khil around the galaxy to join the Alliance to Restore the Republic.^[1]
