An army of volunteer soldiers served under Captain Merumeru during the Battle of Kashyyyk in 19 BBY.^[1] When word spread across Kashyyyk that a Separatist Droid Army would soon be invading Kachirho, Wookiees from all across the planet rushed to the coastal city's defense.^[2] Merumeru's volunteer soldiers fought on the ground during the battle, and were one element of a much larger Wookiee force that also included aerial vehicles. Clone troopers of the Grand Army of the Republic and several Jedi Masters fought alongside the Wookiees.^[3]
