The Militarists were a political faction active within the Galactic Republic Senate prior to the onset of the Confederacy of Independent Systems' Separatist Crisis. With little concern for economic issues, the faction's members concentrated their focus on surveying Hutt Clan expansion and destroying pirate groups and criminal organizations within the galaxy. As such, the Militarists sought the restoration of a formal and centralized Republic military as opposed to the ad hoc network of planetary defense forces supported by Republic Judicials and Sector Rangers.[1]

The faction also often supported the ideals of the Republic Senate's Core Faction but later became focused on their own desires for the government. However, following the outbreak of the Clone Wars between the Republic and Confederacy, the Militarists became part of the Loyalist faction, which was also composed of idealists and threatened planets based in the Rim regions.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Militarists were first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 sourcebook for Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying product series.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Militarist faction was introduced in the thirty-sixth issue of the 1998 Star Wars comic-book series, the second part of The Stark Hyperspace War arc, which was authored by John Ostrander, illustrated by Davidé Fabbri, and published by Dark Horse Comics[2] on November 28, 2001.[3]
