The Ministry of State was one of the senior ministries of the Old Republic, the Rebel Alliance, the New Republic and the Galactic Alliance. Headed by the Minister of State, the Ministry of State served as the foreign affairs branch of the General Ministry, attending to the bureaucratic needs of new member states, as well as diplomatic relations with non-member states and nations, which could range from single colonized moons to whole populated star clusters. The Ministry also was in command of the Galactic Security Office until 7214 BBY when the Ministry of Security and Intelligence took over.

The Ministry of State also possessed a few internal duties.
