Minnisiat

The trade language known as Minnisiat was a lingua franca in the space around the frontiers of the Chiss Ascendancy.

Minnisiat was the language which the young Commander Thrawn offered to teach Jorj Car'das in lieu of the Chiss language Cheunh, and, fifty years later, it was the language in which the Vagaari, masquerading as peaceable Geroons, opened communications with the Chiss consular ship Chaf Envoy.

Beyond its currency as a demotic in one part of the Unknown Regions, little is known about Minnisiat on present evidence. It may have originated within a specific civilization, or developed as an interstellar creole, or been created as a constructed language for interspecies communications; nor is it clear whether it achieved its regional currency simply on its own merits as a tool for communication, or whether it was sponsored by the Chiss or some other trading bloc or imperial power.
