Around 8 ABY, Imperial warlord Moff Kentor Sarne initiated a series of incursions into the Minos Cluster from his holdings in the neighboring Kathol sector. Despite being outnumbered, Sarne's forces managed to emerge victorious, capturing and holding territory. Rumors had reached the New Republic that the Moff had gained access to a new form of weapons technology, and it was surmised that this gave his military the edge during battle. The New Republic managed to push Sarne's forces back to the Kathol sector.
