A Mrid Hunt was a widely respected sporting event held in the capital city of Den Velmor on the planet, Velmor. It was a tradition that extended back several centuries to a time when natives of Velmor were forced to hunt the small Mrid animals as a means of survival.

Three years after the Battle of Yavin, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO and R2-D2 brought Prince Denid home after a long exodus so that he might regain his rightful title as king of Velmor. A Mrid Hunt was held in his honor, and Luke and Denid both participated in the event.

The object of the sport is for the participants to ride atop large, orange frog-like creatures known as Ycaqts and track the small, pink Mrids through the forests outside of Den Velmor.
