Myrmitrices (singular myrmitrix) were adolescent females of the Melitto species. Whenever a Melitto hive grew too large to operate efficiently, several myrmitrices struck out their own with warrior followers and battled until the winner became a new queen, gaining the right to establish her own hive. The warrior followers of a defeated myrmitrix all became ronin, a category of hiveless outcasts.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

The name "myrmitrix" was inspired by the Ancient Greek word μύρμηξ ("ant"),[2][3] although Fry's confessed his starting point probably was the "myrmidon" from the first edition of the roleplaying game rulebook Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.[2]
