Brigadier Nevar was a General in the Imperial military. He served with Blizzard Force during the Battle of Hoth, under the command of Major General Maximilian Veers.
[edit] Biography
Paranoid and apparently plotting treason against the Galactic Empire, Nevar had his command AT-AT, Blizzard 2 upgraded with thicker armor. In spite of his precautions, however, he was assassinated—apparently during the assault on Echo Base itself, although the exact circumstances are unknown, just as the nature of his treachery is unclear.
Nor did the extra armor defend the AT-AT against Rogue Squadron's innovative use of the T-47 snowspeeders' harpoons and tow cables to trip the walkers. Rogue Three, piloted by Wedge Antilles and gunned by Wes Janson, tripped Blizzard 2 and strafed its weak points to destroy it.
[edit] Behind the scenes
Nevar was originally mentioned on the Star Wars Customizable Card Game card for Blizzard 2, where he was said to have commanded that particular AT-AT until his assassination. More recently, Inside the Worlds of Star Wars Trilogy has identified Nevar as commanding Blizzard 2 during the Battle of Hoth itself, implying that his death took place during the battle itself, presumably before the AT-AT was brought down by the Rebel T-47s.
Also uncertain is Nevar's rank: the CCG calls him a General, while Inside the Worlds gives him the title of Brigadier—the only known example of an officer of this rank in the Imperial military. The rarity of his title may indicate a position outside the line hierarchy of the Imperial Army, for instance the Stormtrooper Corps, but "Brigadier" may also be a less precise title denoting that he commanded a Brigade, although he cannot have been higher than Veers' rank of Major General.
Since General Veers was the senior Imperial Army officer attached to the Executor and Death Squadron, Nevar may in fact have been the commanding officer of Blizzard Force.
