The Nighthawks were a squad of boarding troopers that were commanded by Lieutenant Paling, and were a subdivision out of the Alliance Fleet "Storm Unit." The Nighthawks participated in Rebel assaults, such as at the Nomlis III Imperial Bretie Facility.

Led by Lieutenant Paling, the Nighthawks were an squad of the Alliance Alliance Fleet "Storm Unit" boarding troopers during the Galactic Civil War. They were one of several "Storm Unit" squads called upon during the war against the Galactic Empire to board enemy vessels and installations.
Their mission profiles included:
- Recovering important information from the Imperial CR90 corvette Talon,
- Rescuing prisoners of war from Imperial prison Dreadnaught VTR-LX,
- Stealing data from the Nomlis III Imperial Bretie Facility, an experimental factory producing prototype TIE starfighters for the TIE Experimental Project, then planting explosives to destroy the facility,
- Defusing a bomb planted on the Azzameen Station.
After the successful mission during the Nomlis III assault, Paling sent an e-mail of thanks on behalf of the Nighthawks to Ace Azzameen.
