The Nintendo 3DS is the successor to the popular Nintendo DS system made by Nintendo. Much like its predecessor, it is dual-screened handheld video gaming system. Changes from the DS series include a new autostereoscopic upper screen which can project 3D images without the need for 3D glasses, while the lower screen is a touch-screen operated with a stylus, and it also features a built-in microphone, and a three-way camera capable of taking photos in 3D. Also it has a circle pad for much more precise movements than it predecessor. The Nintendo 3DS came out at a price of 249.99 and was then lowered to 169.99.
DS games are compatible with the 3DS but 3DS games are not backwards-compatible with older DS models - as such 3DS games have a tab on the side designed to stop players from inserting 3DS cartridges into a regular DS.
