Nylasteel was a flexible, yet durable, material, which could be used to create restraints with which individuals could be held in captivity.

On the Jedi Academy on Ossus in 35 ABY, nylasteel bonds were used to restrain the captured Dark Jedi Alema Rar while she was in a state of unconsciousness. Once Rar regained consciousness, however, she was able to escape the restraints with ease using her Jedi abilities.
