Ortoz was a doctor and the leader of a research team on Kashyyyk. He found the former clone commando known as Mort lying on the jungle floor of the planet, wounded by a native animal. He saw the clone as a source of incredible potential and began to conduct a series of gruesome experiments on him. Eventually, Mort regained enough of his strength to put a permanent end to the experiments, likely killing Ortoz in the process.
