- "I am Imperial training droid Prototype Ten—designated “PROXY”."
- ―PROXY[src]
PROXY was a prototype holodroid who served as a companion and long time friend of Galen Marek and traveled with him on the Rogue Shadow. Despite their friendship, PROXY would routinely try to kill Marek during training as this was his primary directive provided by Darth Vader. PROXY was equipped with advanced hologram technology that, when coupled with his built-in servos, would allow him to change appearance and adopt a wide range of disguises. He could also present messages: he would turn holographically into the sender, and the sender would say the message. Also, when Galen wanted information on an individual, PROXY would turn into that person and access databases to confirm his/her identity. He was also capable of holding his own in lightsaber combat against Marek for a short time.

[edit] Biography
[edit] Missions with Starkiller
PROXY was the only known witness to his master being knighted by Darth Vader. As the personal droid of Galen Marek, Vader's secret apprentice, he traversed the galaxy with Marek on his missions to eliminate the Jedi Masters Rahm Kota, Kazdan Paratus, and Shaak Ti, whilst trying to kill him on a number of occasions.[1]
[edit] Accompanying a Rebel
Vader seemingly killed Galen after Emperor Palpatine discovered his presence, and it wasn't until six months later when he was recovering on the Empirical, that Vader, through PROXY, told him to gather an army of the Empire's enemies so that they could distract the Emperor's spies, and ordered that all ties to his past, save for PROXY, were to be severed. PROXY did everything he could to make his master disappear, by sending the Empirical into the nearby star, ejecting all escape pods. He advised Galen to leave Juno, his pilot, who was being held captive aboard and branded a traitor, but Marek chose to rescue her instead.[1]
When Galen returned to Raxus Prime to destroy a Star Destroyer factory, PROXY began communicating with the the core of Raxus Prime, and like many other robots on the garbage planet, fell under its control. Marek was forced to seek out and fight PROXY. In an attempt to defeat his master and fulfil his programming, the holodroid then faced Marek in the forms of the Emperor's Shadow Guard, Maris Brood, the temporarily-blinded General Kota, the late Shaak Ti, and lastly, one of Vader's predecessors: Darth Maul. PROXY hoped that using a program Marek hadn't faced before, Maul, may mean he was able to defeat him. However, he was proven wrong in this notion. Marek managed to destroy the core, freeing PROXY, but critically damaging him in the process. The droid begged his master to leave him, as the Core erased his primary programming. This worked out in Marek's favor, though; as PROXY's primary programming was to kill him. Marek refused to leave his childhood friend behind.[1]
After many missions, including rounding up the Rebel leaders, PROXY eventually accompanied Marek and Juno under the guise of Bail Organa's adopted daughter, Princess Leia, to the signing of the Corellian Treaty. Darth Vader and Imperial troops ambushed Senators Garm Bel Iblis, Bail Prestor Organa, and Mon Mothma, however Bail managed to have PROXY cut off Leia's image, so that Vader wouldn't know that she was involved. PROXY in a bold move managed to save the lives of Marek and Juno by using his hologram capabilities to disguise himself as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Vader was momentarily distracted by the assault, enough for Marek and Juno to get away. Vader, being immensely superior to PROXY in lightsaber combat, stabbed the droid in the abdomen and succeeded in capturing the Senators.[1][2]
[edit] Reawakening
Some time after Galen's death, the deactivated PROXY was recovered from the snow and harsh winds on Corellia by Senator Organa and Juno Eclipse. They were recovering records of the birth of the Alliance, and wanted PROXY because he held the records of the Alliance founder, Galen Marek. PROXY related exactly the events that led Marek down the path of redemption, up until his own deactivation at the hands of Darth Vader. Galen had also left specific standing orders that in the event of his death, ownership of PROXY would pass to Juno. All while being repaired, the droid recounted Marek's adventures, up to the point where the Alliance was born and destroyed and when PROXY sacrificed his life to save Marek. Juno then told him how Marek went valiantly to save Kota and the Senators' lives and sacrificed himself so they could escape. As they arrived on Kashyyyk, PROXY said that since Vader and Palpatine had survived, his master's death was meaningless. Bail, however, said it made all the difference to him and the other rebels, since his sacrifice had saved them.[3]

Programmed to specific directives, PROXY was primarily programmed by Vader to randomly attack Marek in attempts to kill him as a way to keep him alert and to test his skill. Though generally friendly with Marek, he enjoyed every attempt to fulfil this primary function. With each failure in fulfilling this function, PROXY, loyal to his friend as well as his programming, apologized to Marek for his inadequacy to complete his programming.
PROXY hated becoming Vader, whose form he assumed whenever Vader communicated with Galen. This experience left PROXY fatigued, as he confessed aboard the Rogue Shadow.[1]
[edit] Abilities
- "Give me some credit, Master! I have one module that you've never seen. An enemy that I have stored for years."

As a holodroid, PROXY was capable of assuming the appearance of nearly any humanoid life form and duplicating his/her voice. He could also access information on any person Marek asked him about, taking on their form and having access to both a biographical and psychological profile.[1]
Programmed with different training modules, PROXY could battle Marek in a lightsaber fight, utilizing the images of many past Jedi, such as Obi Wan Kenobi. He was skilled in several lightsaber forms, including Shien, Soresu, and Juyo. Repulsors and tractor beams built into his armor enabled him to engage in Jedi-like acrobatics and utilize an imitation of telekinesis. However, as a droid, he could not imitate the Ataru form without the Force. At one point, PROXY even took the form of Darth Maul in an attempt to kill his master, using a program that he kept secret for years. It is not revealed how PROXY managed to record this data, only that PROXY had the program stored for years without using it as a way of taking his master by surprise. One instance states that PROXY was able to obtain this information because the Emperor had recorded many of his training sessions which PROXY was able to later obtain.[1]
During Darth Vader's betrayal of Marek, when PROXY tried to save him, he took the form of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi to confront Vader, distracting him enough for Marek and Juno Eclipse to escape.[1]
Over the course of his activation, PROXY held within him a number of combat stances and fighting skills from various fighters which included:
- Obi-Wan Kenobi
- Anakin Skywalker
- Qui-Gon Jinn
- Rahm Kota
- Maris Brood
- Shaak Ti
- Emperor's Shadow Guard
- Darth Maul
- Juno Eclipse
- Galen Marek
[edit] Behind the scenes
PROXY was conceived by The Force Unleashed producers as "not C-3PO, not HK-47, but somewhere in between." PROXY was voiced by David W. Collins.
A G4 exclusive interview with the Project Lead for The Force Unleashed, Haden Blackman, revealed that PROXY is an unlockable playable character in the video game. The code "PROTOTYPE" in the Xbox 360 version, and "HOLOGRAM" in the PlayStation 3, Playstation 2, and Wii version, enables the player to resemble PROXY.
You are not able to Fight PROXY as Darth Maul or use the force to pull a Star Destroyer out of the sky (displayed as a cutscene instead) on the Wii and PS2 versions.
In the graphic novel of the The Force Unleashed, PROXY's duel with Galen Marek on Raxus Prime is one of the sequences that was not included.
Although in the Xbox360/Playstation 3 version, in his battle with Vader disguised as Obi-Wan, PROXY is stabbed in the torso and not seen again afterwards, he appears in other console version endings and in the graphic novel. In the PS2/Wii version, PROXY/Kenobi uses Rahm Kota's lightsaber, while in the Xbox360/Playstation 3 version, he uses a lightsaber similar to Kenobi's.
In the novelization of The Force Unleashed, when PROXY attacks Darth Vader from behind, the Sith Lord cuts him in half, while in the game, the droid is defeated with a stab to the chest.
PROXY is seen after his death in the Downloadable Content Pack for the Tatooine mission, a non-canon story. He is seen in the crushing room of Jabba's Palace after he falls from a chute, claiming to Marek that his primary programming is still non-functional. PROXY uses the last of his power to help Marek escape by disguising himself as a Gamorrean guard and holding him to the scanner so he can escape down the tunnel to later fight Boba Fett and eventually Obi-Wan Kenobi (first Kenobi's physical and then spiritual Force form).
