For other uses, see Rook (disambiguation).

Pagetti Rook was a male Weequay skiff guard in the service of crime lord Jabba the Hutt. In 4 ABY, Rook was tasked with sending the captive Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker to his death in the maw of the Sarlacc, only to be killed by the young Jedi in the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon.

Biography[]

By 4 ABY,[1] Pagetti Rook[6] had entered the employ of the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure,[7] serving as a skiff guard[5] and an enforcer alongside another of his tribe, both of whom were known to others only as "Weequay," and were responsible for many atrocities during their time in Jabba's service, including a spree of bantha killings.[2]

In accordance with the religious practices of their species, the Weequays captured and sacrificed the beasts as part of religious battle ceremonies, drawing the ire of the Tusken Raiders[3] who cherished them as mounts. With their suspicion over the deaths threatening to unify the usually divided and solitary Tusken for a holy war, Jabba put a stop to the rituals, framing and killing a moisture farmer to take the fall.[2]

In 4 ABY,[1] Rook[6] acted as lead lookout[8] at the front of the skiff carrying the Rebel captives Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca. Guarding Jabba's prisoners as they were brought to be fed to the sarlacc inhabiting the Pit of Carkoon on the planet Tatooine, the skiff guard forced Skywalker to the end of the skiff's plank at the Hutt's direction. As the Jedi leapt down, grabbed the plank, and sprung back onto the skiff's deck, the guard ducked to avoid a stroke of his lightsaber,[5] before being killed by Skywalker during the ensuing battle.[2]

Personality and traits[]

A Weequay male,[2] Pagetti Rook[6] measured 1.7 meters in height and had leathery brown skin, black eyes, and black hair,[4] worn in a ceremonial topknot of which he was very proud.[2]

An adherent to the religious ceremonies of the Weequay species[3] and one of the most feared of Jabba the Hutt's enforcers, he was a violent individual who spoke little, including to his tribemate, with whom he maintained a close relationship and a remarkable degree of cooperation in combat.[2]

Equipment[]

Rook[6] wore brown fabric torso armor and bracers over a pale blue shirt, tan pants, and brown boots.[5] He wielded a force pike as his preferred weapon, though he also employed an E-11 blaster rifle.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

Star Wars: The Action Figure Archive first provided the nickname Queequeg for this character; however, this was only a production nickname. Leland Chee still referred to this character as "Weequay hunter"[9] and later named him Pagetti Rook in Star Wars Insider 143.[6]

Queequeg is a fictional Polynesian harpononer from Herman Melville's 1851 novel Moby-Dick. The Weequay species were named after the Polynesian Queequeg[10] but were originally named Queequay by the crew of Return of the Jedi.[11]
