The Palace Guards, also known as the Nabooian Royal Guards and nicknamed the "Pearl Hats"[7], were a division of the Royal Naboo Security Forces based on the planet of Naboo. Palace Guards were commonly stationed in and around the Royal Palace of Theed.
History
The Palace Guards served as bodyguards for the ruling Monarch of Naboo and their court, though they also served and protected important figures such as Chommell sector's appointed Senator, and were known to escort the representative to Coruscant and back. Unlike the Security Guard, this corps was largely made up of dedicated, experienced soldiers who had seen combat in offworld locales. Many Palace Guards had worked with the Sector Rangers or various other planetary militia in the Outer Rim Territories.
These soldiers were known to be fiercely loyal to their charges and, although few in number, formed the backbone of the Royal Security Forces. As of 32 BBY, one hundred and fifty soldiers comprised the Palace Guard. Commonly, they worked on average twenty standard hours a week and remained with the unit for five to ten years each. Though their training was somewhat below galactic standard, the Palace Guards made up for it with zealous dedication to duty.
After the Invasion of Naboo, the Palace Guards adopted a darker uniform compared to the more colorful ones they had worn before the Trade Federation invasion. During the Battle of Naboo most of them were killed in the main hangar and outside in the skirmish against the droids guarding the palace, who were supported by some AATs.
Equipment
Naboo Palace Guards had a durasteel helmet with a plastifiber vest. Ubese boots covered their lower legs. Ubese leather gloves protected their hands. Palace Guards generally carried a modified D18 pistol to defend themselves or their charges.
