Baroness Paltonae was an alias taken by Mara Jade in a casino to attempt to assassinate Dequc on Nezmi. Paltonae represented a mysterious corporate interest that had developed reliable and undetectable ways to cheat at gambling and detect lock combinations — both of which were merely Jade's own use of the Force.
