Along with John Wagner, Mills revitalised British boys comics in the 1970s, and has remained a prominent writer in UK comics ever since. He founded the anthologies Battle Picture Weekly (1975-1988, for which he wrote "Charley's War"), Action (1976-1977), 2000AD (1977-present, for which he wrote "Sláine", "ABC Warriors" and "Nemesis the Warlock", among others), Crisis (1989-1991, for which he wrote "Third World War") and Toxic! (1991, for which he wrote "Accident Man"). Other notable creations include Marshal Law, first published by Epic Comics in the USA in 1987, and the French-language series Requiem: Chevalier Vampire, first published in 2000.
