Peko-peko[3] were a type of flying creatures that could be found in the swamps of the planet Naboo. They had blue plumage, a long tail, clawed wings, and a prominent beak.[1] In 32 BBY, a pair of peko-peko flew over the Gungan Sacred Place in the swampy foothills of the Gallo Mountains just as the forces of the Naboo arrived to ask the Gungans hiding in the sacred place for aid in fighting the Trade Federation.[2] During the Clone Wars a painting depicting Queen Padmé Amidala carrying a peko-peko was located in the Theed Royal Palace.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
Peko-pekos first appeared in the 1999 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[2] They were first identified in the current canon in the video "Every Creature in the Star Wars Movies," which was released by the Star Wars Kids Youtube channel in 2019.[3]
