In comic books, the penciller is the primary artist. This artist determines how the script will be depicted on the page. As the name implies, a penciller draws the comic in pencil on heavy-gauge paperboard. Most pencillers usually have another artist ink for them, though there are some who prefer to ink their own work. Some artists draw using a graphics tablet, the artwork being entirely digital and oftentimes not requiring the use of an inker.
