Designed before the Clone Wars, the Penumbra was produced in small numbers by Haor Chall Engineering. When war broke out, it was phased out for ships better suited for the massive droid armies of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[1]

While not well-suited as a droid transport, the Penumbra-class was a very maneuverable ship with decent speed and respectable shielding. It was well-armed and popular with pirates and mercenaries.[1]

Hondo Ohnaka's pirates were known to have several of these shuttles and used them on raids against trade routes in the Outer Rim.[1]
