Pergitor was a planet in the Minos Cluster settled by Jesa Corporation miners. Overmining resulted in volcanic eruptions that poisoned the atmosphere and destroyed the ecosystem. The inhabitants were forced to retreat to sealed cities.
After having been ruled as a despotism for years, in 37 BBY a group of young liberals overthrew the government, resulting in a disorganized democracy. However, just before the start of the Clone Wars, the Church of Infinite Perception launched a counter-coup, installing a theocracy. Due to its nebulous affiliation with the Galactic Republic, the Republic could do nothing to stop the bloody revolt.

The name of the planet may have been a reference to purgatory.
