[edit] Life as a Jedi

Pernicar.
"I never wanted to be anything else but a scribe, just like him..."
―Pernicar[src]

Born the son of a scribe in a small town, and one of four brothers, Pernicar aspired to follow in his father's footsteps. However, when Pernicar proved to be Force-sensitive, his father sent him away to join the ranks of the Jedi. Pernicar resented this and hated his father for doing so. When he was older, however, he realized that it had been done for his own sake. He regretted that his father had died before he understood.[1]

A decade before the Ruusan campaign, Pernicar reflected on the loss of his padawan, Wud Mortull, who had disappeared eight years before. Mortull had reappeared, only to reveal his defection to the Sith, so Pernicar cut him down without mercy.[2]

Pernicar was a close friend of Jedi Master Hoth. He was the one who advised Hoth to use Force-sensitive children during the Ruusan campaign, saying that if the Jedi did not use the children, Lord Kaan would. He also recruited Valenthyne Farfalla's father into allying with the Army of Light. The younger Farfalla and Hoth were usually at odds with each other, and Pernicar often served as an mediator in their disputes.

[edit] Death

Pernicar dead.
"There is no shame in falling, There is only shame if you refuse to rise once again."
―Pernicar[src]

He was killed by a Sith attack on Ruusan in 1,000 BBY. Farfalla arrived too late to save Pernicar, which drove a wedge between him and Lord Hoth. Pernicar's Force ghost later manifested itself to Lord Hoth in a dream, guiding him and preventing his fall to the dark side of the Force. He convinced Hoth to lay down his anger and apologize to Farfalla.

A planet in the Ruusan system was named after him.

[edit] Behind the scenes

The account and timing of Pernicar's death differs in Jedi vs. Sith and Darth Bane: Path of Destruction.

Jedi vs. Sith: Pernicar was killed in the Sixth Battle of Ruusan, when the Dark Lords of the Sith used the Force to unleash a firestorm across the surface of Ruusan.

Darth Bane: Path of Destruction: Some time before the Sixth Battle, Pernicar and Hoth were traveling in a supply convoy in the forests of Ruusan when they were ambushed by the Sith. Pernicar was killed in the attack, but Hoth was saved by the timely arrival of Valenthyne Farfalla.

Both stories share several common elements:

  • Pernicar dying in the vicinity of Hoth.
  • Farfalla arriving shortly after.
  • Hoth being angry at Farfalla over Pernicar's death, and later apologizing.

For the areas in which they differ, however, a cohesive official timeline has not yet been worked out.
