Phelarion was the home planet of the wealthy Motti family, including Lady Tarkin, wife of Wilhuff Tarkin. The Motti family were wealthy citizens in the megonite moss mining business, using slave labor.
Lady Tarkin erected a solid black obelisk on Phelarion in tribute to Tarkin and named the main starport Port Tarkin. She ran the mining operations for the Galactic Empire, but they were sabotaged by Leia Organa, who crashed on the planet after her ship was shot down by a TIE fighter.
