- "The Fizzle is most commonly recognized for the edible green orbs floatin' in it. Burstin' with fruity flavor, they give the drink a unique texture that you won't forget, even after a few too many rounds."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook
The Photon Fizzle was a fizzy, fruity cocktail characterized by the edible green orbs floating in it. In the days of the Galactic Republic, it was commonly found at diners on the Core Worlds, such as Dex's Diner on Coruscant, and it remained available on that ecumenopolis under the New Republic. Although popular, some beings regarded the Photon Fizzle as lacking in sophistication. Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs published a recipe for it in The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.
Description[]
- "You ain't gonna find a Photon Fizzle bein' served on a fancy yacht on Vandor, but even though this popular beverage ain't quite as sophisticated as some of the other cocktails on the list, it'll get the job done just the same."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook
The Photon Fizzle was a carbonated cocktail with edible, fruity-flavored green orbs that floated in it, giving the fizzy alcoholic drink a unique texture. The Photon Fizzle was a popular beverage in the Core Worlds, but because it was considered by some beings to lack sophistication, it was unlikely to be served in certain locations, such as aboard luxury yachts of[1] the sparsely-settled frontier planet[4] Vandor.[1] Humans[2] and Artiodacs were species that could consume Photon Fizzles.[1]
History[]
- "Let me buy you a photon fizzle."
- ―Elia Kane, to Penn Pershing
In the days of the Galactic Republic, the Photon Fizzle was commonly served in diners within the Core of the galaxy, including on the ecumenopolis-covered planet Coruscant. The drink was usually premixed in large vats for ease of distribution by WA-7 waitress droids.[1] At Dex's Diner, Dexter Jettster's establishment in CoCo Town on Coruscant, it was available for 1.7 credits per serving.[3] In 22 BBY,[5] Jettster had a ready-to-serve vat of the drink behind his counter on the day that Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi visited to ask him about a Kamino saberdart.[6] When Coruscant was under the New Republic's governance[2] around 9 ABY,[7] Photon Fizzles could be purchased near Monument Plaza, which former Imperial Communications Officer Elia Kane offered to do for Doctor Penn Pershing after she tricked him into trying to touch the exposed peak of the Umate mountain.[2]
In 34 ABY,[8] the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs published his recipe for the cocktail in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. His version sweetened the beverage with Dagobah Slug Syrup, a syrup that he created as a substitute for the saccharine slime secreted by the swamp slugs[1] native to the swamp planet Dagobah.[9] Although a being could become intoxicated by imbibing a large amount of the beverage, Tuggs claimed that the drink's distinctive texture would not be forgotten afterward.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- "Can you go get my Photon Fizzle? It's bright green, you can't miss it!"
- ―A patron asks Obi-Wan Kenobi to bring her Photon Fizzle in LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
In the new Star Wars canon, a drink that first appeared in the 2002 prequel trilogy film, Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones,[6] was identified as a photon fizzle in the 2015 children's book What is a Wookiee?, an updated reprint of the 2005 edition written by Laura Buller and Kate Simkins.[3] The name was misspelled as "photo fizzle" in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: The Complete Visual Dictionary, New Edition, written by Pablo Hidalgo and David Reynolds.[11]
Its name became capitalized in the 2019 recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, written by Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel, which includes an out-of-universe Photon Fizzle recipe. In the recipe, boba pearls are steeped for an hour in green food coloring gel and Dagobah Slug Syrup, then the green boba is placed in the bottom of a glass. A portion of the previously used syrup, gin, and fresh lime juice are shaken with ice, then the chilled mixture is strained into the glass and topped off with ginger beer.[1]
The 2022 non-canon video game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has a level based on Attack of the Clones in which Obi-Wan Kenobi, who is waiting tables at Dex's Diner while Jettster fixes the WA-7 waitress droid Wanda's fuse, obliges a patron who asks him to bring her Photon Fizzle order to her.[10]
In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the photon fizzle originated via mention in "The Lost Prince,"[12] the fifth episode of the animated series Star Wars: Droids, which first aired on October 5, 1985.[13]
