Powered light battle armor was one of the earliest attempts at power-assisted armor that saw use during the years of the Jedi Civil War and after. Dampening fields were installed in the armor to block the noise of servomotors, which added the side effect of shielding the wearer against extremes in sonic frequencies resulting from sonic-based weapons.
