An Oversector, also called a Priority Sector, was an area of space comprising many sectors or parts of sectors plagued with Rebel activity.

HistoryEdit

Originally, the Oversectors were the respective theaters of operations of the twenty Republic Sector Armies during the Clone Wars. After the Declaration of a New Order, they were reorganized in Imperial Priority Sectors and placed under the rule of a Grand Moff.^[1][2]

The creation of Oversectors was first recommended by the Tarkin Doctrine. They usually contained between two and a dozen sectors. Palpatine assigned a military Regional Governor known as a Grand Moff to each Oversector, superseding the authority of Sectorial Governors (Moffs), Planetary Governors, and other local authorities. The Grand Moffs were given direct control over the systems within their Oversectors, and could use practically limitless resources and means to squash Rebel activity therein.
