- "An Imperial probe droid."
"It's a good bet the Empire knows we're here." - ―Princess Leia Organa and Han Solo
A probe droid was a type of droid that could be used for reconnaissance. There were at least two known models of probe droid: the DRK-1 probe and the Viper probe droid. They could be equipped with both shields and blasters.
The Sith Lord Darth Maul employed three DRK-1 probes to search for the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine.[1]
When the Rebel Alliance moved their base to Hoth, a Viper probe droid was sent to find them. One of them successfully arrived on Hoth and transmitted its information back to the Empire, who launched an attack. The droid, however, was intercepted, giving the Alliance some warning and time to prepare.[2]
