"General Tiin, the ship is lost."
"Then it's time we get a new one.
"
―A clone commander and Saesee Tiin[src]

The Prosperous was a Providence-class carrier/destroyer in the navy of the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. In 19 BBY, the Prosperous took part in the Confederacy's surprise invasion of the Republic's capitol planet Coruscant. The Prosperous and the rest of the Separatist fleet arrived out of hyperspace over Coruscant and began to assault the Republic's defense forces. However, during the battle, the Prosperous was boarded by the hundreds of Republic clone marines led by Jedi General Saesee Tiin, who were escaping their own damaged Star Destroyer, the Impavid. General Tiin and his marines fought their way inside the Prosperous, defeated the carrier's battle droid crew, and captured the Separatist vessel.

The Prosperous was a Providence-class carrier/destroyer[3]—manufactured by the Free Dac Volunteers Engineering Corps[1]—serving in the Confederate Navy during the Clone Wars between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Republic. The Prosperous had a heavily automated control system,[3] which included several offensive turbolaser turrets positioned across its hull, which were operated by several consoles on the carrier's bridge at the front of the ship.[2]

History

"Prepare to board!"
―General Tiin before capturing the Prosperous[src]

In 19 BBY, the Prosperous[3] was part of the large Confederate fleet that attacked the Republic's capital world of Coruscant, hoping to kidnap Republic Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. The Prosperous and the rest of the Separatist navy arrived out of hyperspace in the space over Coruscant, and began to engage the Republic's own defense fleet. However, during the battle, the Republic Venator-class Star Destroyer Impavid was badly damaged during the fighting. High Jedi General Saesee Tiin—who had taken over command of the Star Destroyer during the invasion—ordered the Impavid's clone trooper crew to pass over the nearby Prosperous and abandon the dying vessel.[2]

Firing its turbolasers at the carrier, the Impavid flew over the Prosperous, while General Tiin and a hundreds of highly trained clone marines donned pressurized space armor, and jumped out of the Impavid's left side hangar. Floating through the vacuum between the two destroyers, Tiin and his clones landed on the Prosperous's hull and began to fight their way inside the Separatist capital ship. The Prosperous's own turbolasers were able to hold back most of the clone boarders on the ship's hull, killing many of the marines. However, Tiin and a few marines managed to get aboard the Prosperous via a hole Tiin had cut in the ship's hull with his lightsaber.[2]

Mowing their way through the Prosperous's B1 battle droid crew, Tiin and his infiltrators reached the Prosperous's bridge, where the Jedi Master took the helm of the carrier. Using the different consoles on the bridge, Tiin redirected the Prosperous{'s}} turret fire from the clone marines still stuck on the hull to other nearby Separatist warships, with the marines on the hull cheering as they realized that the Republic had captured the vessel.[2] Because of the high level of automation across the carrier, Tiin and his marines were able to secure the rest of the Prosperous with relative ease,[3] and returned to Coruscant aboard the Prosperous after the battle.[4]

Commanders and crew

During its service in the Confederate Navy, the Prosperous was crewed and guarded by several B1 battle droids. However, these battle droids were no match for General Tiin and his elite clone marines, who managed to board and seize the Prosperous. After the Republic captured the Prosperous, Tiin took command of the carrier during the Battle of Coruscant.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Prosperous was first shown as an unnamed Providence-class carrier in the "Chapter 23" of the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series, first airing March 23, 2005. The Prosperous was later identified on Saesee Tiin's Databank entry on Star Wars.com, and was given an entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, published December 9, 2008.
