A Proton-8 reactor was a type of reactor core, equal to a I-a2b solar ionization reactor that created enormous amounts of power by annihilating very condensed hypermatter, though at one quarter the size.^[1]

During the reign of Emperor Palpatine at the height of the Galactic Civil War, Rendili developed this reactor in an attempt to out do Kuat Drive Yards, though in the end the reactor was only installed on a couple of ships due to it's extremely high cost.^[2]
