The purbole was a simian creature native to the planet of Dathomir.
Biology and appearance[]
Purboles were small, smelly, clever and hostile simian animals that lived on the planet Dathomir. They lived and hunted in packs around the tree tops of their home world. They would often hunt their prey from the trees, tracking them before dropping down to surround them.[2] In contrast, rancors used their long arms to swing among the tree tops and hunt Purboles.[3] However, the primates were smart and agile, allowing them to easily escape their predators.[2] Their species consisted of hunters, scouts, stalkers, and elders.[1]
They might be related in some respect to the similar looking ro-roos of Kashyyyk.[4]
History[]
After the Battle of Yavin, a herd of purboles inhabited and guarded the wreckage of the crashed passenger liner Tzarina.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
Purboles were creatures in the 2003 massively multiplayer online roleplaying game Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided,[1] prior to the game's closure on December 15, 2011.[6] The concept art annotation shown in From Pencil to Pixel: The Art of Star Wars Galaxies initially identified the purbole simply as "monkey sloth."[7]
