Purple mantis were predatory invertebrates found on the desert planet of Tatooine. In Super Return of the Jedi, these monstrous creatures exhibited extreme toughness; a single mantis could withstand dozens upon dozens of lightsaber slashes or blaster shots before going down. Upon defeat, a mantis would leave behind several small hearts.
