Quermians were a gaunt, long-necked humanoid sentient species native to the planet Quermia. They had two brains, one located inside their head and the other within their chest cavity, and two pairs of arms. During the Trade Federation's Invasion of Naboo, four Quermians were enrolled in the Jedi Order, one of whom was Jedi Master Yarael Poof, a member of the Jedi High Council.

Quermians were a willowy[5] humanoid[2] garden[6] sentient species that had pasty white skin and red eyes, which were located in a bulbous head with a small mouth that was located on top of a craning neck.[1] They had two brains,[5] one located in their head and the other inside their chest cavity.[7] Possessing no spines,[8] Quermians were notable for their towering stature,[5] with an average member of the species standing over three feet taller than most other humanoids.[2] Quermians had two sets of thin arms[5] with hands that terminated in several slender digits, and a pair of legs that ended in large toed feet.[1] The second pair of arms was often hidden and was supported by the braina located in the chest cavity.[6] Lacking noses, Quermians instead smelled using olfactory glands in their hands.[8] Quermians could live up to 200 years of age, possibly more. Due to the Quermian's many physical and genetic similarities to the Xexto, xenobiologists believed them to share a common ancestor.[9] In reality, Quermians were created from the Xexto species by the ancient Arkanian scientists.[10]

Society and culture[]

Some Quermians, such as Jedi Master Yarael Poof, preferred to conceal their second set of arms beneath clothing,[5] and traditionally wore cannom collars.[8]

Quermians in the galaxy[]

Native to[5] the Outer Rim[11] world of Quermia,[5] four Quermians were members of the Jedi Order during the Trade Federation's Invasion of Naboo, the most senior of which being Jedi Master Yarael Poof. A revered member of the Jedi Council, he was a celebrated diplomat and teacher,[2] and an expert practitioner of Jedi mind tricks and illusions.[7]

Senator Nim Tar of the New Republic was a Quermian.[12]

Behind the scenes[]

Quermians first appeared in the 1999 film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[1] Although never identified on screen, the species was first identified in Star Wars: Episode I The Visual Dictionary, a 1999 Star Wars Legends reference book written by David West Reynolds.[13] The species' name was confirmed to be canon by Star Wars: Card Trader, an app released on iOS and Android platforms by The Topps Company, Inc. in 2015.[2]

Despite being a member of the Xexto species,[14] Ferpil Wallaway bears a striking resemblance to a Quermian,[15] who were a species of genetically modified Xexto.[10]
