Qui-Gon Jinn's first apprentice was a Jedi student who was successfully trained for Knighthood by Qui-Gon Jinn while Jinn was waiting to train his second apprentice, Xanatos. The student's knighthood also saw Jinn promoted to the level of Jedi Master.
