Qwohog language was the native language of the Qwohog species from Hirsi. It used sound waves to communicate underwater, but in the air these waves could only be transmitted for 4 meters. They used devices to translate sound waves to words.
Qwohogs also used Qwohog sign language to communicate out of water. An important part of Qwohogs' heritage, it had been replaced by Basic in the practice, but was widely taught. Once the Qwohogs came into contact with offworlders, they began using vocalizer masks.
