R2-0, known as Artoo-Oh or ArOh, was the original prototype of the R2-series astromech droid. It was an ancient astromech droid with a brass casing, probably built well before 32 BBY.

By 36 ABY, when Industrial Automaton was purchased by Bornaryn Trading, the droid was lying forgotten in a disused storage facility. Aryn Thul tracked down the droid and presented it to Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade as a goodwill gift. She hoped that they and slicer Zakarisz Ghent could use the OmniGate of its prototype Intellex IV droid-brain to access further holofiles of Luke's mother, Padmé, in the sequestered sector of R2-D2's memory.^[1]
