R2-M5 was a red R2-series astromech droid produced by Industrial Automaton that served the Royal Naboo Security Forces. It was one of the astromech droids aboard the Queen's starship as of 32 BBY. When a battleship opened fire on the Naboo Royal Starship, R2-M5 did not go out to make immediate repairs. This was, in retrospect, a smart move, since many astromechs who ventured out failed to return. R2-M5 lived to serve in the Naboo Space Battle when he went into the socket of an N-1 starfighter. His fate in the battle is unknown.

• He is called R2-M5 in the Entertainment Earth Exclusive Star Wars Astromech Droid Set where he is mistakenly colored brown.

• Prior to the release of the toy, he was referred to as R2-D1 in trading cards and published books about Episode I.
