R3-S1, nicknamed "Threece," was an R3-series astromech droid part of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. With an overclocked Intellex V processor, R3-S1 picked up a decidedly vain programming flutter. Not assigned to a specific starfighter, she was employed in the upkeep of technology throughout the Alliance to Restore the Republic's headquarters in the Great Temple on Yavin 4. R3-S1 did not work well with others due to her competitiveness, but she excelled at organization, becoming the recognized chief of the astromech droid pool.

The R3-series astromech droid R3-S1 served the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the age of the Galactic Empire. She was stationed at the headquarters of the Alliance's Massassi Group in the Great Temple on the moon Yavin 4. Instead of being assigned to any starfighter, she was employed in the upkeep of technology throughout the base and eventually became recognised as the head of the astromech pool there.[2]

In the year 0 BBY,[5] she was present in a hangar of the temple after the Rebel leadership met to discuss attacking the Empire's forces on the planet Scarif in order to obtain plans to the Death Star superweapon. The meeting ended with a decision not to launch an attack, but the recently recruited Rebel Jyn Erso assembled a group of Rebels willing to follow her to Scarif against the orders of the commanders. Erso led the group through the hangar and past R3-S1 before boarding the stolen[6] Zeta-class cargo shuttle SW-0608[2] and taking off to start the Battle of Scarif.[6]

R3-S1 had feminine programming and was built with silver plating, apart from her plastex cranial dome, which was clear with orange markings. She had an overclocked Intellex V processor and a holoprojector built into the dome. At some point she picked up a vain programming flutter that resulted in her not working well with others and being competitive to a fault. She excelled at organisation, which earned her recognition as head of the astromech pool.[2] R3-S1 stood 1.09 meters tall and,[4] like all R-series astromechs, was manufactured by Industrial Automaton.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

R3-S1 was created for the stand-alone film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,[6] which was released on December 16, 2016.[7] She was not identified in the film[6] but received a designation in the reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo[2] and released on the same day as the film.[8]
