The RD-4 grenade launcher,[1] also known as the radiation launcher,[3] was a type of grenade launcher which fired radiation grenades that was manufactured by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc.. The launcher could configure the fuse of the grenades, so that they either exploded on impact or could be bounced off surfaces to detonate after a few seconds.[1][4] Early in the Clone Wars, the launcher was used by Confederacy of Independent Systems OOM pilot battle droids on various battlefields, such as the First Battle of Kamino and Battle of Rhen Var.[2] Late in the war, it was also adopted by the IG-100 MagnaGuards.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The RD-4 grenade launcher serves as the unique primary weapon for the pilot droid in Star Wars: Battlefront. In Star Wars: Battlefront II, the pilot class was rebranded as the engineer class, and in place of a unique primary faction for each faction's pilot unit, the engineers' primary weapon was standardized to a shotgun. As a result, the radiation launcher was passed onto the MagnaGuards, a special unit, as a secondary weapon.
Like all grenade launchers in the series, the weapon's model is based on the T-21 light repeating blaster.
