Rebel assault armor was a type of heavy armor that was used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War.

Description[]

RebelAssaultCamo-SWG

A Rebel Assault Forest Camouflage Armor.

The Rebel assault armor was developed for modern combat and was often worn by a soldier needing to retain their agility while ensuring maximum protection against pulse-wave blasters. In fact, it offered a high degree of protection against kinetic damage but lesser protection from energy-based weapons like blasters. The complete armor set was composed of the helmet, chest plate, left & right biceps, left & right bracers, gloves, leggings and boots. Typical suits had to be biolinked to the wearer to prevent unwanted use; they were also very expensive to create, meaning that such assault armor was a rare sight in battle.[1]

A variant of this armor, the Rebel assault forest camouflage armor, was designed to help Rebel assault troops blend with forest environments.[2]

Another variant was the Rebel Special Ops Officer armor,[3] best known as the Rebel Special Ops armor.[4] This armor was originally developed for Special Operations officers[3] but it was eventually provided to any Alliance soldier who had reached the rank of commander by proving superior fighting skills on the battlefield.[4]

History[]

After the Battle of Yavin, Rebel assault armor were sometimes used by Heavy Weapons Specialists.[5]

In 1 ABY,[6] certain spacers who allied with the Alliance to Restore the Republic received camouflaged Rebel assault armor for serving and assisting certain high-profile Rebellion leaders while they were in hiding within the Hidden Rebel Base on Corellia.[2] The same year, Rebel assault armor was worn by the Alliance organizer of the Remembrance Day event on Corellia.[7]

Also in 1 ABY,[6] a spacer retrieved the nine parts of a Rebel battle armor while visiting multiple worlds in the galaxy and finally assembled the complete armor.[8]

During the Galactic Civil War, the Mistryl Assault Troopers used an armor that included an helmet very similar to the Rebel assault armor helmet.[9]

Behind the scenes[]

The Rebel assault armor appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[10] The Rebel assault armor was one of the Rebel faction armors added to the game with the release of the "Combat Upgrade,"[11] on April 27, 2005.[12] The Rebel Assault Forest Camouflage Armor was added to the game with the revamped "Rebel Theme Park," released with the "Chapter 6" update, on May 22, 2007.[13]

  6. 6.0 6.1 According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
