Rebus of the Atrivis sector had the rank Moff in the Galactic Empire. As an Imperial weapons designer, he was a key figure in the Dark Trooper Project. He chose the sewage systems of Anoat as his hideout. The Dark trooper weapons bore the initials M.R. as his signature.
Rebus did also some work for Imperial Machines, but he hated their political infighting and wanted a more creative environment.[1]

Moff Rebus was seemingly a very eccentric and insecure man. After learning of the overwhelming success of the weapon he designed to be used with the dark trooper soldier, Rebus barricaded himself deep within the subterranean sewage system underneath the abandoned Anoat City. This seedy locale was perhaps what Rebus wanted for a "free and creative" environment he craved and subsequently lacked when working directly under the supervision of the Empire.
The sewage system itself was mammoth and extremely confusing to navigate; all the while being virtually pitch black, making the use of a flashlight imperative. Rebus made sure that even the smartest of trespassers were thwarted due to complicated drain gate switches and a seemingly endless array of durasteel sewage tunnels to traverse. Rebus apparently placed Imperial probe droids, IT-O Interrogator droids and Remote droids ready to attack any tresspassers in various areas within the sewer complex. Rebus apparently hired a few Gran thugs armed with Thermal detonators to impede Kyle Katarn's progress into the sewer system. To make matters worse, the sewers under Anoat were infested with dianogas.
After the Battle of Talay, the initials on one of his discarded prototype weapons led the rebel mercenary Kyle Katarn to find Rebus in his hideout lab, simply sitting in a brown chair holding a large weapon. For reasons unknown Rebus put up no resistance whatsoever, was captured, and subsequently questioned by Katarn on the darktrooper project. Rebus provided very little useful information and was arrogant and uncooperative during questioning by Jan Ors and Kyle Katarn. Rebus simply ranted on that test results on Fest were above and beyond what he expected in success rate.
Fest hosted a testing facility for phrik, used in the construction of the Dark Troopers. This leak eventually led Katarn to the elimination of the whole project.

- Rebus means 'riddle' in Latin and probably refers to the gradual discovery process of the Dark Trooper project by Jan Ors' examination of evidence, or the complexity of the level he appears in.
- In the Dark Forces Mod project for Jedi Academy, Moff Rebus uses the same model as Rax Joris.
