[edit] History
StarDrive was associated with companies such as Rendili Vehicle Corporation,[6] Rendili/Vaufthau Shipyards LTD.,[5] and Rendili-Surron.[7] Rendili Star Systems was apparently a subsidiary of Rendili StarDrive. Although dating back to the founding of the Galactic Republic, Rendili was one of the original sponsors of the Corporate Sector Authority.[5]
The corporation maintained an extensive system of smaller yards spread throughout the Mid Rim and Outer Rim regions.[8] It was placed in the limelight when it was chosen to build the Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser for the Republic prior to the Clone Wars[2] and when the Republic was developing the Victory-class Star Destroyer during the conflict, Kuat Drive Yards gave Rendili StarDrive a contract for the design, much to the delight of the latter..[9][2]
In the era of the Galactic Empire, Rendili was less favored by the government and the Navy, but their older ships remained in widespread use, and they remained one of the few facilities that could construct spaceframes significantly larger than Imperial-class Star Destroyers. This included special weapons platforms and large battleships.[10]
After the Battle of Endor, they constructed Republic-class Star Destroyers for the New Republic.[11]
