The Renunciates was a splinter faction of the Pius Dea order, which had dominated the Galactic Republic for centuries at the time of the faction's creation.
History[]
Their beliefs were modified by Jedi and Caamasi influence in a concentrated effort to cause a schism in the powerful religious order, sparking a civil war within the Pius Dea. The Renunciates waged war upon the main faction, causing the Pius Dea Faithful to devote more resources away from their other enemies in the galaxy. The Renunciation and subsequent civil war began the Seventh Alsakan Conflict, in which Alsakan joined forces with the Jedi Order, the Republic Navy, the Caamasi, and several other groups against the Pius Dea-controlled Republic. After a sabotage operation by the Bureau of Ships and Services, many Pius Dea Cathedral ships were lost in space, unable to restart their hyperdrives.
The remaining space forces were decimated by the Renunciates battleships. The head of the order, Supreme Chancellor Contispex XIX, was captured by a team of Jedi Knights aboard his flagship, ending both the civil war between the factions and the larger Crusades the order had inflicted upon the galaxy.
