The Republic Navy War College, also known as the Anaxes War College, was a military academy of the Galactic Republic based on the Core World of Anaxes. Considered the embodiment of naval tradition for centuries, the War College later became a prominent Imperial institution before falling under the control of the New Republic and the Galactic Alliance.
Based at Anaxes Citadel, the War College trained officers for the Republic Navy after they had passed out of basic training at the Naval Academy on Prefsbelt IV. Even in periods when the Republic lacked a standing military, it was romanticised in holodramas.
After the Ruusan Reformations of 1000 BBY dissolved the Republic Navy, the War College became largely moribund. In the aftermath of the Mandalorian Excision, it was revived in 738 BBY as a joint effort by the Planetary Security Forces as the College of Planetary Security Forces. This resulted in a restoration of naval tradition that was used as a model when the Republic Navy was reestablished in 22 BBY.
The Republic Navy War College was reestablished during the Clone Wars, when the Galactic Republic began to centralize its military forces once again. It made the Anaxes War College System to classify starships, in particular warships, based on their size and capabilities. The system made by the college during the Republic era was used by subsequent galactic governments.
Following the Declaration of a New Order, the War College became a division of the Imperial Academy. Cadets who had passed out of basic training at the Imperial Naval Academy on Prefsbelt IV might attend advanced training on Anaxes. The War College offered active training and combat simulations, and also served as a think tank for promising cadets and active-duty Imperial officers. The War College also tested new warships and equipment for the Imperial Navy in training cruises.
