The battleships were larger and more specialized in design than the Republic's multi-purpose designs like the Venator-class Star Destroyer.^[6]

HistoryEdit

The battleships in the Republic's armadas were often escorted by mid-size warships like the Venator-class^[2] and the Acclamator-class.^[7] In the Republic naval organization, battleships operated in groups of 3 or 4 in the unit known as a "section". With these heavier capital ships included, the section was often referred to as a "line", making them "ships of the line".^[5]

Towards the end of the war, components for battleships were being produced at a high rate at the Kuat Drive Yards. Freighter pilot Nyreen Vollen noted them on her shipping list as indicating either a need for many combat-ready hulls or a large amount of replacement parts for near-future engagements.^[1]
